“‘The Voyeur’ by Elizabeth Flux is a real highlight of the collection, a tale of family, history and grief. It explores the possibility of being able to travel back in time and live through the eyes of your ancestors. We follow as the main character pieces together her own memories and knowledge with that of family members past and learn the dangerous temptation of getting stuck in the past. Flux is an evocative writer and this is a spellbinding story that holds your attention until the very end.” – Julia Faragher, ArtsHub

“Later in the issue, Elizabeth Flux’s ‘Call Him Al’ reads as a riposte … The short story’s uncanny allegorical twist expresses much more that is vital, and it is aided by far greater technical assurance, imagination, and pathos.” – Elizabeth Bryer, Australian Book Review

“Elizabeth Flux captures the mood of the collection strikingly in her story ‘One’s Company’” – Emily Paull, The AU Review

“Tight and controlled, making each word count, its short vignettes build to a surprisingly complex portrait of female relationship” – Feminartsy Fiction Prize judge Robyn Cadwallader on ‘Best Laid Plans’

“Other standouts include Dominic Amerena and Elizabeth Flux’s stories, both about what it is like to be outside Aussie culture.” – Michalia Arathimos, Overland on Best Australian Stories 2017
